As of today the number of the world's population is 8 billion people. Anna Hovhannisyan, UNFPA Population and Development Program Coordinator, stated this during her meeting with journalists on November 15.

According to her, it is by 1 billion people more than in 2011. She informed that the number of the global population will have reached 9.7bn by 2050 and 10.4bn by 2080, and the global population will start decreasing from 2100.

The expert explained that the growth of the world's population is due to a decrease in mortality and an expected increase in average life expectancy. "20 years ago, life expectancy was 60-65 years, in 2019 - 72 years, and by 2050 will increase to 77 years.  The cumulative fertility rate is 2.5, which will decrease to 2.1 by 2100," Anna Hovhannisyan noted.

According to Worldometer, more than 168,000 babies were born on November 15.
