Police have detained a man who was planning a terrorist attack in Istanbul, the Hürriyet newspaper reported.

The number of detainees has increased and Ammar Jarkas, who was planning the attack, has also been captured, the newspaper reported.

On Sunday afternoon there was an explosion on the pedestrian street Istiklal in central Istanbul, killing six people and injuring 81.

The suspect in the attack was detained, she confessed to links with the banned in Turkey Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said he suspected that the order to carry out the attack came from the Syrian border town of Kobani and that the perpetrator entered Turkish territory via the city of Afrin. Soylu said Monday that his country's authorities were not accepting the U.S. Embassy's condolences over the attack.
