Negotiations of the countries participating in the 27th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP27) may be at risk of failure because of the tough position of representatives of the European Union on global warming. For the EU, the primary goal is to maintain the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C by the end of this century, Bloomberg reported.

COP27 climate talks in Egypt were in disarray Saturday after the European Union's climate chief Frans Timmermans said the bloc is "prepared to leave" if no progress is made on keeping the global warming limit goal to 1.5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century, the story said.

According to Timmermans, the European Union authorities have certain concerns about the most controversial issue of these negotiations: the creation of a special center for the compensation of losses and damages. At the same time, the global community has not yet been able to come close to implementing a plan to reduce average temperatures globally.

Timmermans said during a speech at the summit press conference that they are concerned. The EU would rather have no solution than a bad solution.
