At least three people were killed and six were wounded Monday as a result of Syrian shelling of the Turkish town of Karkamysh. One child was among the dead, the head of Turkey's Interior Ministry said.

The governor of Gaziantep province, Davut Gul, had earlier reported two dead and five rockets fired at the city of Karkamish. According to him, six people were wounded, the condition of two of them is assessed as serious.

Earlier, the Habertürk television channel had reported the shelling. According to its reports, members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party and the People's Self-Defense Forces, which are banned in the republic, fired at least four rockets into the city. Some of the shells exploded in the center of the city.
