Famous businessman Farhad Ahmedov was detained during an operation carried out by the Azerbaijani State Security Service.

Media.az reports quoting Demokrat.az, a few days ago searches were carried out at the businessman's facilities in Baku, Goychay and Ismayilli districts.

Farhad Ahmedov was detained on suspicion of espionage in favor of Russia. He testified in the investigation department. A written commitment was received from the billionaire not to leave Azerbaijan.

His case is currently under investigation. So far, there have been no official statements on the subject, the newspaper notes.

F. Akhmedov is the head of AzNar Company, a producer of natural fruit juices. The businessman is 49th in the list of Russian billionaires, according to Forbes 2022, with a fortune of $ 1.7 billion.

Farhad Akhmedov is on the list of the richest Russians sanctioned by the European Union and the UK in April 2022.
