Today there is a very positive situation when Armenia’s national debt/GDP ratio is 50 percent. This was announced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government.

"This is a positive indicator, to say the least. Is this a result of exchange rate change? Of course, the exchange rate change plays a role. But we recorded with pleasure that this largely depends on the quality of national debt management," Pashinyan added.

At the end of this year, Armenia's national debt will be slightly higher than $10 billion, Finance Minister Tigran Khachatryan said, for his part.

"That number is not important. What is important is the amount of the national debt in relation to the GDP. (…) Our task is not that our [national] debt should not be 10 or 15 billion [US dollars]. Our task is that our [national] debt should not increase in relation to the GDP, but—decrease," said Pashinyan.

In turn, Tigran Khachatryan informed that it is projected that Armenia’s national debt/GDP ratio will be 49 percent at the end of 2023.
