The European Union is actively working on the ninth package of sanctions against Russia over the conflict in Ukraine, European Commission (EC) head Ursula von der Leyen said Thursday at a press conference in Finland, which was broadcast by the EC press service.

"I can announce today that we are working full speed on a ninth sanctions package" she said.

According to von der Leyen, the EU is working hard to weaken the Russian economy and will not stop until Ukraine wins.

The EU has already imposed eight sanctions packages against Russia since February this year, when Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine. The latest sanctions package was approved in early October.
