South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol has vowed to step up efforts to increase arms exports and provide advanced defense technology, amid his ambition to make the country's arms industry the world's fourth-largest arms exporter, Reuters reported.

Yoon held a meeting on promoting defense exports to explore ways to shift the industry's reliance on exports away from domestic supplies.

"The defence industry is a new future growth engine and the pivot of the high-tech industry," he told the meeting held at Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd.

In August, Yoon Suk-yeo unveiled a goal to make the country's defense industry the fourth largest in the world after the United States, Russia and France.

He said a growing number of countries, including Australia and Norway, are seeking to increase defense cooperation that will help strengthen South Korea's ability to counter threats from North Korea while promoting peace and stability in the international community.

“Some say that there might be a vacuum in our military force due to defence exports as part of their political offensive, but the government will maintain thorough military readiness posture while actively supporting those exports,” Yoon said.
