Authorities in Nangarhar province in eastern Afghanistan have banned women from visiting medical facilities without a male escort in several districts of the province, the newspaper Hasht-e Subh reports.

According to the newspaper, the Taliban-led department of vice and valor in the province has issued a decree to this effect in nine districts of the province.

According to the decree, women cannot visit health facilities or undergo medical examinations without being accompanied by men.

The paper's sources in Nangarhar confirm that the decree was distributed on November 24.

They also report that imams of mosques received the document. They will have to communicate the rules to the congregation. The Afghan authorities have not yet commented on this restriction.
