Authorities in Kagoshima Prefecture in southwestern Japan are planning to destroy about 120,000 chickens at a local poultry farm due to an outbreak of avian influenza, Kyodo news agency reported.

On December, 1 in the western prefecture of Tottori have been destroyed about 110 thousand chickens.

Previously, it was reported that about 34,000 chickens were to be slaughtered in Kagawa Prefecture. According to Kyodo, genetic analysis then confirmed the presence of a highly pathogenic strain of avian influenza on one of the prefecture's farms.
