Mongolia's parliament has backed the government's proposal to declare a state of emergency in Ulaanbaatar, News.mn reported.

"A majority of the Parliamentary Assembly voted in favor of declaring a state of emergency, the National Security Council now meets and the president has the legal authority to issue a decree declaring a state of emergency," the report said.

By law, the president of Mongolia must consider the issue within 12 hours.

Earlier it became known that mass demonstrations are held in the capital of Mongolia due to the scandal of export coal theft. Protesters demand the government and the president to name the "thieves who stole coal worth 44 trillion tugriks ($12.9 billion).
