YEREVAN. – Zhoghovurd daily of the Republic of Armenia (RA) writes: From now on, it will be possible to provide state protection to the retired presidents and prime ministers of the Republic of Armenia solely by the decision of the prime minister. That is, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan continues to increase his powers, although he was against the head of the country having so many powers when he was an opposition MP.

It is known that on December 9 the RA National Assembly will convene an extraordinary session, the agenda of which includes as well the package of draft laws on making amendments and additions to the Law on Ensuring the Safety of Persons Subject to Special State Protection.

Zhoghovurd daily learned that with these drafts it is proposed to limit the period for the provision of personal state protection being provided to the retired presidents and prime ministers of the republic.

In particular, it is proposed to limit the period of provision of personal state protection being provided to presidents and prime ministers in the territory of the Republic of Armenia to 7 and 10 years, respectively.

It is also proposed to envision legal regulations in which case—while in foreign countries—the retired presidents and prime ministers of the republic will be provided with state protection during their visits to foreign countries with a total duration of no more than 20 days during a year.
