The former head of the state coal mining and export company Battulgyn Gankhuyag, his relatives and several businessmen were detained after searches were conducted, TASS reported, citing the Minister of Justice and Internal Affairs of Mongolia Khishgee Nyambaatar.
The searches took place in the homes of the suspects on the night of Thursday, December 8.
In connection with the coal theft case, a working group has been set up to support the investigation. The first meeting was held on Wednesday. Since the working group meeting, the investigation has intensified, explained the Minister of Justice and Interior.
As it is specified, a total of eight people have been detained so far.
The wife of the former head of the state company, her sister and brother-in-law, the head of one of the departments of Erdenes Tavan Tolgoi, the heads and owners of two private firms have also been detained.
Investigative actions are continuing.
