Russia expects new military training camps in 2023. The main intrigue: will those who did not serve be drafted. The State Duma is already discussing such an option, Life. ru reported.

The law says that those who have already served in the army under the draft and are now listed in the reserve can be called up for military training. However, recently Lieutenant General Victor Sobolev, a member of the Defense Committee of the Duma, made a statement that Russians older than 30 years old who have not served may also be sent to a military training camp to obtain a military registration specialty, and on January 12 this year this deputy suggested sending "all young people" to a military training camp for six months.

Other members of the Duma Defense Committee called Sobolev's ideas his personal initiative, but at the expert level they confirmed information about some changes in approaches to conscription. In particular, Andrey Kartapolov, the chairman of Defense Committee of the Duma, said that in spring of this year it is possible to make changes, according to which the age of draft will be gradually raised from 18 to 21 years old and the upper draft threshold will be 30 years.

Military training camps are held annually, and both citizens who are in the reserve and reservists are drafted to participate in them.

Reservists are drafted to training exercises in the Armed Forces, the Russian Federal Guard Service troops, bodies of state protection and bodies of the Federal Security Service on the Russian president's decree basis. For soldiers and officers in the reserve military training camps may be training and testing, and their duration may not exceed two months. However military training camps can not be called more often than once in 3 years, but in the inspection camps reservists can be called without any restrictions.

With reservists the situation is different. First of all, this includes only those reservists who signed a special contract with the Defense Ministry. These people work in a civilian specialty, but are obliged to regularly attend a military training camp. Thus, the state compensates the reservist's employer for the average earnings during the training camp, and the employer remits this amount to the reservist.

Staying in the reserve of the Armed Forces of Russia is not indefinite. The maximum age of stay depends on the rank and category.

The first category of military reserve (basic mobilization reserve) includes privates and sergeants, as well as warrant officers and ensigns up to 35 years old; junior officers - up to 50 years old; majors, captains of third rank, lieutenant colonels, captains of second rank - up to 55 years; colonels and captains of first rank - up to 60 years; top officers - up to 65 years.

The second category is those who may be called up in the event of full-scale military action. As a rule, it is not yet called up for military training. It consists of privates and sergeants, as well as warrant officers and midshipmen up to 45 years old, junior officers - up to 55 years old, majors, captains of the third rank, lieutenant colonels, captains of the second rank - up to 60 years old, colonels and captains of the first rank - up to 65 years old, top officers - up to 70 years old.

The third category practically does not participate in military training. These are privates and sergeants, as well as warrant officers and midshipmen up to 50 years old; junior officers - up to 60 years old; majors, captains of the 3rd rank, lieutenant colonels, captains of the 2nd rank - up to 65 years old.

Those who have reached the age limit for staying in the reserve, or those who are deemed unfit for military service due to health reasons, are transferred to retirement and removed from the military register.
