Lynne Tracy, the new U.S. ambassador to Russia, has arrived in Moscow, the U.S. embassy said. She became the first woman ever to hold the post.

Lynne Tracy was sworn in as ambassador to Russia on January 9. She had previously served as ambassador to Armenia. Before that, Ms. Tracy was Senior Advisor for Russian Affairs in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs at the U.S. State Department (2017-2018) and Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow (2014-2017).

Lynne Tracy's predecessor, Ambassador John Sullivan, left the post in September 2022 due to his wife's serious illness. After his departure, Elizabeth Rood served as U.S. Charge d'Affaires ad interim in Moscow.
