After September 13 last year, stability on the border with Azerbaijan is considered a priority issue for Armenia, and the EU civilian observers will contribute to this, head of NGO Dialogue Yuri Navoyan said during a live broadcast on Thursday.

He urged not to oppose to Russian efforts and mechanisms that already exist, expressing hope that the Armenian political leadership has enough wisdom to compare, but not to confront, all these possibilities.

According to him, the status quo in the South Caucasus is maintained, Russia mediated the suspension of large-scale hostilities in November 2020 and four joint statements were signed with Russia's mediation, which creates a framework for the settlement of the conflict.

Navoyan explained that the strategic plan in Russia is to freeze the problem, ensure security, open communications in the region, conduct delimitation and demarcation, and through these activities create an atmosphere of trust between the conflicting parties.

"I think that in Armenia all political circles and the political leadership understand the danger of turning Armenia into an arena of geopolitical competition. Under the current status quo, all European or U.S. initiatives can only have an additional character," he concluded.
