France and Italy are close to finalizing technical details on the supply of SAMP/T SAMs to Ukraine, Reuters reported citing two diplomatic sources, noting that it is not yet clear how quickly a final decision will be made.

Kyiv has requested additional air defense systems from its Western allies and, in particular, the SAMP/T, known as the Mamba.

French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu will travel to Italy on Friday to meet with his Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto, and the two sides intend to continue negotiations on SAMP/T.

The system, created by a joint Franco-Italian consortium, can track dozens of targets and intercept 10 missiles simultaneously and is the only European-made system capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.

It is noted that technical negotiations are continuing.

Earlier, Paris supplied Ukraine with Mistral surface-to-air missiles with a portable launch and Crotale short-range anti-aircraft missiles, which are used to intercept low-flying missiles and aircraft.
