The death toll in an explosion at a mosque in the Pakistani city of Peshawar rose to 25 and the wounded to 120, Geo TV quoted officials as saying.

Earlier there were reports of 17 dead and 90 wounded.

"Twenty-five people were killed and at least 120 were injured because of the suicide attack," the channel said in a report.

The explosion at the mosque occurred around 1:40 p.m. Monday during prayers. According to eyewitnesses, there were about 120 people in the mosque, most of those gathered were police, army and bomb squads. The explosion was carried out by a suicide bomber. As a result of the explosion, part of the mosque collapsed, a number of witnesses reported that the roof of the building collapsed.
