The UN is the last instance for Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians. Yeghishe Kirakosyan, the representative of Armenia for international legal affairs, said this at Monday’s UN International Court of Justice (ICJ) hearing on Armenia's claim against Azerbaijan.

Armenia requests that the ICJ obligate Azerbaijan to stop the “environmental protests” and the blockade of the Lachin corridor in both directions, as well as to stop obstructing the supply of energy supplies—including natural gas and electricity—from Armenia to Karabakh, Kirakosyan said, presenting Armenia's claim against Azerbaijan related to the latter’s ongoing blockade of the Lachin corridor that links Karabakh to Armenia.

According to him, the Armenian side hoped that these issues would be resolved at the UN Security Council, whose respective session was held on December 20, 2022.

Azerbaijan tried to justify the blockade of the corridor with environmental fabrications which no one believes. It does this despite its commitment to adhere to the statement of November 9, 2020 and guarantee the safe transportation of people and goods in both directions of the Lachin corridor, Kirakosyan added.

The representative of Armenia reminded that these actions of Azerbaijan were condemned by the European Union, the Council of Europe, the UA, France and numerous other countries, as well as a number of organizations.

One resident of Karabakh has already died due to the lack of necessary medical care, and many others are at similar risk Kirakosyan said, adding that the shelves of shops and pharmacies in Karabakh are empty, food is distributed with coupons, natural gas is cut off from time to time by Azerbaijan which completely controls the natural pipeline coming from Armenia, and the power supply is carried out in Karabakh with scheduled power outages because Azerbaijan does not allow to repair the damage at a power transmission line.

Such blatant acts of ethnic cleansing should not have a place in the modern world, and the UN court is the last instance for Karabakh Armenians, emphasized the representative of Armenia on international legal matters.
