Agents of the Azerbaijani government have been holding 120,000 residents of Artsakh hostage under blockade conditions for 52 days by terrorist actions.

Because of the blockade, the population of 120,000 people in Artsakh (including about 30,000 children, 20,000 elderly, 9,000 people with disabilities) suffer many hardships and face a high risk of malnutrition and frostbite, among other rights violations.

41 kindergartens and 20 long-day educational institutions have been closed since January 9 due to worsening food shortages under the blockade.

5,528 children can no longer attend kindergarten, being deprived of adequate care and food.

At least 5,103 people have lost their jobs and sources of income because of the difficult economic situation.

More than 20,400 tons of vital goods would have reached Artsakh if not for the blockade, during which only a small portion was delivered by the International Committee of the Red Cross and Russian peacekeeping troops.

With the beginning of the blockade, many countries and international organizations of the world condemned Azerbaijan's actions and called for the lifting of the blockade. The issue was also discussed in the UN Security Council, the European Court of Human Rights obliged Azerbaijan to take all necessary and sufficient measures to remove the blockade, in the near future the issue will be discussed in the International Court of Justice (The Hague) in the framework of the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
