The Main Department for Combating Drugs of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan carried out "a special operation to detain members of a criminal gang, which supplied drugs from the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan and sold them."

Azerbaijani mass media report referring to the Interior Ministry of Azerbaijan, the members of the organized criminal grouping were detained under the code names "Pyunkhan", "Baba", "Peyman", "Araz" and others, who smuggled large amount of drugs from Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan, involving youth in network of drug couriers.

"During a series of operations conducted by the main Anti-Drug Department in Baku and regions over the past 20 days 36 people involved in illegal activities were detained, 114 kg of drugs, psychotropic substances, 3,000 ecstasy and methadone tablets and electronic scales were seized from the illegal turnover. In addition to the above mentioned persons, 30 more people involved in drug trafficking were detained and handed over to the investigation. Panah Guliyev, Jeyhun Abdullayev, Anar Askerli, Kamran Nazarli, Khayal Khalilov and brothers Kamran Aslanov were the main suppliers of drugs in Azerbaijan. Criminal proceedings were instituted on these facts under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The detainees were placed under arrest. The media quotes the detention of other members of the drug network inside and outside the country as continuing."

Today, the Ministry of Interior held another action to find "Iranian spies."
