Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called on the Georgian authorities to release the country's former president Mikhail Saakashvili and not to allow his execution. He is sure that Saakashvili is slowly being killed, Zelenskiy tweeted.

"Just now a citizen of Ukraine, the former president of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili is slowly being killed. It is disgraceful even the very fact that you still have to fight against such an attempt to de facto publicly execute a person in Europe in the XXI century!" the Ukrainian leader tweeted.

Zelenskiy called on the Georgian authorities to remember their obligations under European norms of human rights protection and to stop mockery.

"Ukraine offered options for solutions. I call on the world to help save Mikhail's life and prevent his execution," he added.

On December 20, Zelenskiy had already called on Georgia to send Saakashvili to Ukraine or another country for treatment. According to the Ukrainian leader's assessment, Saakashvili is now in a serious condition and called what is happening to him a mockery.
