The head of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, in a speech at an event at Georgetown University, called to take China's ambitions for Taiwan seriously. This was reported by Reuters.

Burns noted that Beijing's ambitions with regard to Taiwan should not be underestimated.

The CIA director noted, according to U.S. intelligence, that President Xi Jinping of the People's Republic of China has ordered the army to be ready to conduct an operation to take control of Taiwan by 2027.

He argues, however, that the Chinese leader was probably surprised and knocked out when he saw what the conflict in Ukraine had done to the Russian army. Burns is confident that Xi Jinping likely tried to learn from it.
