Royal Mail of Great Britain presented the first stamps with the image of King Charles III, reported the Times newspaper.

According to its data, the monarch is depicted on the stamp in profile facing left. The tradition of depicting the monarch in this way has been in place since the first Penny Black stamp of 1840 featuring Queen Victoria. The new stamp will be part of the exhibition at the Postal Museum, London. The exhibition will run until September 3, 2023.

The Charles III stamps will go on sale on April 4, but post offices will not sell them until they run out of stock with the portrait of Elizabeth II. For a period of time, stamps depicting the current and previous monarchs will be in circulation at the same time. A similar situation, known as mixed franking has been seen in the past when stamps depicting Edward VII and George V in 1911-1913, George V and George VI in 1937-1939 and George VI and Elizabeth II in 1952-1955 were in circulation simultaneously, the paper specifies.
