Biden traveled to Wisconsin Wednesday, where, speaking at a union training center, he said his policies build an economy that works for working people.

Democrats hope Biden can use the economic gains and record job creation to win voter support.

The president's public approval rating was 41 percent in a Reuters/Ipsos poll that ended Sunday.

Biden's trip will focus on several key states that his aides believe will determine his chances for re-election.

Wisconsin is a fiercely competitive state. A majority of voters here supported Republican Donald Trump in 2016 and favored Biden in 2020.

On Thursday, Biden travels to Tampa, Florida, to oppose a Republican proposal to cut Social Security and Medicare benefits. These elder care and health care programs are popular with voters, especially in Florida, where many older Americans live.

Democratic leaders fear that increasing numbers of Florida residents, which has been a site of political struggle for nearly seventy years, are voting for Republican candidates.

Biden has said he plans to run for a second term, and a formal announcement is expected in the coming weeks. His speech Tuesday was seen by officials as the start of his campaign for re-election in 2024.
