The National Assembly (NA) of Armenia on Thursday approved the formal request of the Prosecutor General to agree to the initiation of criminal prosecution against Armen Charchyan, an MP of the opposition "Armenia" Faction of the NA.

After the respective secret ballot, the chair of the NA Counting Commission, Narek Babayan, reported that 68 MPs had participated in the voting out of the 107 lawmakers, one ballot was declared invalid, and 67 MPs had voted in favor of the aforesaid formal request.

The criminal proceedings related to Charchyan, with which the prosecutor's office wants to initiate a public criminal prosecution, are in connection with the proceedings of the late Artur Sargsyan, known as the "bread bringer." As an expert in the double-commissioned forensic medical examination commission appointed in that case, in February 2017, Charchyan had given a false conclusion, according to the representative, in the second forensic medical commission examination of the case.

On Wednesday, NA had agreed to initiate criminal prosecution against Seyran Ohanyan, head of the NA "Armenia" Faction and former defense minister. The Prosecutor General had submitted three respective petitions regarding Ohanyan.
