An opportunity will be provided for women in Armenia to undergo six months of temporary military service on a voluntary basis, after which they also can undergo longer-term military service. This was announced by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at Thursday’s Cabinet meeting of the Armenian government.

Addressing Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan, Pashinyan asked when women can submit applications for this six-month military service.

"We will do everything to make it to the [next] winter draft. It is difficult to say whether we will make it to the summer draft or not; everything depends on our speed," said Papikyan.

In response, Pashinyan noted: "We have set a task to have new and fresh infrastructures for our women, so that we start that process with new content and freshness; it is a new chapter for them."
