Greece plans to buy multi-purpose long-range Spike NLOS missile systems produced by Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, Kathimerini newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, the Government Council on Foreign Affairs and Defense has decided to unblock the procedure for purchasing Israeli-made Spike NLOS, which are intended for use by the Ground Army and Navy.

The discussion of procurement was frozen because of disagreements over the localization of production systems in Greece. However, the KYSEA statement indicates that the Spike NLOS program will be implemented with the extended participation of the Greek defense complex.

Details of the participation of Greek companies in the production of Israeli missiles are not specified.

The Spike NLOS system is based on self-directed anti-tank missiles, which, in turn, were developed as a competitor to the U.S. Javelin anti-tank missiles.

Spike NLOS is designed to engage armored vehicles, surface and ground targets, as well as enemy troops within a radius of 25 km beyond line of sight. The missile launchers can be mounted both on vehicle platforms and onboard ships.
