Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried had a telephone conversation today.
Azerbaijani media reported that Bayramov assured that Azerbaijan was committed to the peace process.
He called the actions of Azerbaijanis, blocking the Lachin road and Nagorno-Karabakh, legitimate.
From December 12, 2022 a group of Azerbaijanis have blocked the road Stepanakert - Goris, presenting political demands and for more than 50 days have been blockading 120 thousand people, creating a humanitarian crisis, including children and the sick. Azerbaijan also periodically cuts off the gas supply to Nagorno-Karabakh.
During a meeting of the UN Security Council, convened on December 21, 2022 at the request of Armenia, there was a call to unblock the Lachin corridor. Despite this, as well as numerous calls by the international community, Azerbaijan's blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh continues.
