Following France, Canada urged its citizens not to visit Belarus, and those who are already there, to leave the country immediately, Global Affairs Canada said in a warning.
"Canadians should avoid traveling to Belarus due to the risk of selective application of local laws and armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine," the respective statement reads, in particular.
The Global Affairs Canada emphasized that the possibilities of the Canadian embassy to provide consular services in Belarus are extremely limited, and called on the Canadian nationals in Belarus to leave by commercial means.
Among the reasons for this appeal, the Global Affairs Canada noted the conflict in Ukraine, the unstable political situation in Belarus after the 2020 protests, the increase in fraud and looting, as well as the threat of terrorism.
Global Affairs Canada advised those Canadian citizens who decide to stay in Belarus to follow reliable news, review personal security plans every day, have a stock of medicines and cash, and be ready to hide in a safe place.
