Armenia finds unacceptable the revision of agreements under the threat of force. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated this at a joint press conference with Luxembourg Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn, responding to the Azerbaijani President's demand to set checkpoints in the Lachin corridor and on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border in the place of the Zangezur corridor demanded by Baku.

The minister recalled that Armenia's reaction followed almost immediately after blocking the Lachin corridor, with the regulations related to the Lachin corridor reached and reflected in the trilateral statement of the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan of November 9, 2020.

"Revising these regulations, with the use or threat of force, is unacceptable for us and cannot be an acceptable solution," Mirzoyan said.

According to him, Baku's goals are obvious and are to try to get a commensurate Lachin corridor route. This is not a new narrative for the Armenian side, and Yerevan's position on the issue is also well-known.  "We have the Lachin corridor, which, by the way, before the last war, stood out as an exclusive humanitarian route throughout the negotiation process to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Given the fact that the Armenians of Artsakh are surrounded on all sides by Azerbaijan, the Lachin corridor was the only route linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia and the outside world, this corridor was initially given importance. And the Azerbaijani side has also taken this fact," the FM noted.

At the same time he underscored that the agreements on unblocking regional communications are also reflected in the statement of November 9, 2020, as well as in subsequent documents.

"Our position is unchanged and very constructive. We have expressed a commitment to the speedy unblocking of regional communications, including railroads, in accordance with the sovereignty and law of those states through which the routes pass. I think this is a very reasonable, constructive and transparent approach," he said, adding that this approach was confirmed at the meetings in Munich. At the same time, he stressed the unacceptability of the threat of the use of force and aggressive policies aimed at revising existing agreements.
