Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Geneva, Switzerland on a working visit, on Monday met with Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

As Armenian News-NEWS.am learns from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, the FM lauded the ICRC's long-term activities in Armenia aimed at resolving humanitarian issues. In this context, ICRC's efforts towards the return of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held hostage in Azerbaijan, the cases of forcible disappearance, and the determining of the fates of missing persons were valued.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the details of the humanitarian situation created in Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of the blocking of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan. FM Mirzoyan emphasized that Azerbaijan grossly violates its commitments, as well as the norms of international humanitarian law and protection of human rights.

The importance of the implementation of the decision made by the International Court of Justice on February 22 regarding the use of urgent measures against Azerbaijan was also emphasized.

Also, FM Mirzoyan reflected on the need for ICRC's active engagement in addressing the humanitarian challenges in Nagorno-Karabakh.

Also, Ararat Mirzoyan stressed the importance of sending an international fact-finding mission to Nagorno-Karabakh and the Lachin corridor, as well as the imperative of ensuring unhindered humanitarian access to relevant international organizations.
