Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday met with United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi, within the framework of 52nd regular session of the UN Human Rights Council, in Geneva, Switzerland.

The interlocutors discussed issues related to the further development of cooperation established between Armenia and the Office of the UNHCR, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Mirzoyan and Grandi addressed the humanitarian problems created as a result of the 44-day war in 2020 and Azerbaijan's military aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia, emphasizing the urgency of addressing them. In this context, issues of support for displaced persons during the aforementioned events were discussed, too.

During the meeting, the need to resolve the complicated humanitarian situation in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) due to Azerbaijan’s ongoing blockage of the Lachin corridor was also emphasized. FM Mirzoyan underscored the need to send an international fact-finding mission to the Lachin corridor and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the unimpeded humanitarian access of relevant UN agencies, including the Office of the UNHCR, to Nagorno-Karabakh.
