The opening of regional communications, including railway communication between the western regions of Azerbaijan and Nakhchivan, can be a serious component of the North-South project. Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated this at a joint news conference Tuesday in Baku with his visiting Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov.

The Azerbaijani FM stated that he fully shares the positions regarding the exceptional importance of the project. According to him, in recent years, Azerbaijan has invested a lot of funds in transport infrastructure and it mostly fully corresponds to the objectives and tasks of this project.

"The missing railway section, if completed, will enable to connect to the Iranian railway system, come out to Turkey, and be a major branch of the North-South project," Bayramov said.
