Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan visited the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) CJSC to get acquainted with its's 2022 activity report, the Prime Minister's Office informs Armenian News-NEWS.am

The management staff of the Armenian NPP presented a report and presented the work carried out in last year. It was noted that the design period of operation of power unit No. 2 of the NPP expired in 2016, but thanks to the large-scale modernization work, the operation period of this power unit has been extended by 10 years. As a result, for the first time since 1995, the nuclear power plant works at 100 percent thermal capacity, instead of 92 percent.

It was reported that the project of double extension of the operation period of power unit is in progress. The work will be carried out in 2023-2026. As a result, the 2nd power unit of the Armenian NPP is expected to operate safely until 2036.

There was also a reference to the prospects of Armenia’s energy sector strategy, which plans to develop energy production with low carbon emissions by the year 2040, with renewable and nuclear energy production. In this context, international leading experience was presented.

The Prime Minister, in the context of the development of Armenia’ energy sector, emphasized the consistent work towards the safe and reliable operation of the nuclear power plant and the continuous improvement of management efficiency.

Also, the PM toured the nuclear power plant.
