Congressman Frank Pallone, Co-Chair of the Congressional Armenian Issues Caucus, has called on his colleagues in the US House of Representatives to allocate $100 million to Armenia and $50 million to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh).

In a letter to the House State and Foreign Operations (SFOPS) Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Mario Diaz-Balart  and Ranking Member Barbara Lee, Frank Pallone also called for $2 million for demining efforts and enforcement of Section 907 of the US Freedom Support Act, which restricts the military aid being provided by the US to the government of Azerbaijan, as well as to put pressure on Azerbaijan to release the Armenian prisoners of war, who were supposed to be released according to the trilateral statement signed in November 2020.

In his letter, Pallone also drew attention to the inhumane and illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan, which continues for three months. In the letter, he emphasized that the Armenian people of Nagorno-Karabakh are on the verge of a humanitarian crisis, which threatens to have long-term consequences for the security of the region.

The letter states that the blockade of the Lachine corridor and the continued restriction of access to medical, food, and essential goods have created insurmountable needs and, as of now, the assistance provided by the US government is completely inadequate.

In order to strengthen Armenia's security and protect democracy in the region, the letter also calls on helping Armenia to defend its sovereignty in the fight against Azerbaijani expansion and authoritarianism.
