The Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia ruling party has made a decision to withdraw the bill "On Transparency of Foreign Influence" from the Georgian parliament amid protests against this bill. This was noted in the statement issued by this political union on Thursday.

"We saw that the adopted bill caused disagreements in the society. The lying machine was able to present the bill in a negative light and mislead a certain part of the population. A false label of ‘Russian law’ was attached to the bill, and its adoption in the first reading was presented to a part of society as a departure from the European line.

In addition, the radical forces managed to engage a part of the youth in anti-legal activities. We ourselves should pay close attention to the peace, tranquility, and economic development of our country, as well as to the progress of Georgia on the path of European integration. Therefore, it is necessary to spend the energy of each of our citizens not on confrontation, but on the development of the country in the right direction.

Taking the above into consideration, we, as a government responsible to every member of the society, made a decision to unconditionally withdraw the bill that was approved by us without any reservation.

When the emotional background calms down, we will better explain to the public why the bill was adopted and why it was important to ensure the transparency of foreign influence in our country. For that, we will start holding meetings with the population and will tell the general public the whole truth about every detail of the issue.

We act with a special responsibility that, as a governing force, we bear to each member of society.

Georgia will maintain peace and stability and will continue to move towards Europe with dignity, which is the principle choice of the Georgian society," reads the statement posted on the ruling party's website.
