Armenia has recorded a decline in Freedom House's ranking of freedom, from last year's 55th place to 54th place this year.

According to this prestigious international human rights organization, Armenia is a partially free country.

In the latest of its annual report Freedom in the World, Freedom House states that Armenia is still in an important transition process after the anti-government protests and government change in 2018 and is seriously suffering from the consequences of the 44-day war in 2020.

According to Freedom House, Armenia's security challenges hinder the fulfillment of some pledges that were made by the country’s incumbent authorities.

According to this human rights organization, relations between politicians, civil servants, and businessmen in Armenia have historically influenced politics and contributed to the selective application of the law in the country.

In its latest Freedom in the World report, Freedom House reflects also on the report published by Google's threat analysis group last May, according to which the Armenian government is linked to the Predator spy program, which was used in order to target journalists and opponents.

Also, Freedom House presented the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh in its latest Freedom in the World report. And unlike Azerbaijan, which is considered an unfree country, Nagorno-Karabakh has been assessed as partially free by this organization.
