The European Union (EU) has called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to take advantage of the historic opportunity to resolve their differences and return to the negotiating table.

The EU calls on the leaders of the two countries to use the historic opportunity to resolve this conflict once and for all and return to a meaningful dialogue, said Oliver Varhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, during the European Parliament's plenary session debates on relations between Baku and Brussels.

Many important issues require an urgent solution, the commissioner emphasized.

Also, Varhelyi expressed his full support for the efforts of the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, aimed at dialogue between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia on all issues related to the peace process, including the future peace treaty and border delimitation.

According to the European commissioner, the EU has deployed a monitoring mission in Armenia to reduce tension and assist the peace process.

This is an important step for strengthening stability and strengthening the role of the European Union in the region, Varhelyi added.
