Iravunk daily of Armenia writes: Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan will resign, according to Iravunk sources close to the ruling Civil Contract [(CC)] Party.

In this matter, it seems, a final decision has been made, giving the green light to Tigran Avinyan, the CC candidate for mayor. With this, the ruling power first of all solves a problem toward aborting the new wave with the agenda of a possible change of power by the opposition.

Basically, by putting the domestic political arena on the pre-election "rails," the opposition will hurry to position itself in the pre-election campaign, instead of focusing on the agenda of the change of power.

Especially, after the last press conference, [PM] Nikol Pashinyan has realized that time is working against him, so he should think about preserving the municipal power as soon as possible. As for the risks of war, which even Nikol Pashinyan states, this can also work in favor of the CC pre-election "company" at this phase, as because of the possible border tension, no one "will have the heart" to engage in the [election] campaign, while Tigran Avinyan has already de facto started the campaign a long time ago.
