Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan will announce his resignation today, writes the website of Haykakan Zhamanak (Armenian Times) daily, which is owned by the family of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

According to this media outlet, in the evening, heads of the Armenian capital’s administrative districts, as well as heads of departments and divisions of the Yerevan city hall will come together in the city hall building, and Sargsyan will bid farewell to them.

"News in connection with the possible resignation of Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan have been circulating in the press since yesterday. Neither the members of the [Yerevan] Council of Elders nor the news department [of the city hall] confirm the news. They only state that they do not have clear information and that until the resignation is officially announced, they cannot say anything about it.

"According to our information, the personnel appointed by Sargsyan have also submitted letters of resignation.

"Let's remind that the elections of the mayor of Yerevan are scheduled for September, there is no decision about special elections at the moment yet," Haykakan Zhamanak added.
