The Peace Corps program, in which 1,100 volunteers were involved, has contributed to making Armenian-American relations closer and friendlier. US Ambassador to Armenia Kristina Kvien stated about this during Wednesday’s swearing-in ceremony of 16 new American volunteers of the Peace Corps in Armenia.

The ambassador called the swearing-in ceremony of these new Peace Corps volunteers in Armenia a significant event. She noted that the Peace Corps volunteers were always received with special warmth and treated accordingly in Armenia.

Kvien said that in the past there were also US State Department employees among these Peace Corps volunteers, who continue to keep in touch with those they interacted with in Armenia within the framework of the Peace Corps program in the country.

These new Peace Corps volunteers will work at Armenia’s schools and NGOs and in the provinces of e country, and will help teachers and students to improve their knowledge of English.

Several members of the Armenian government also attended the aforesaid swearing-in ceremony.

The Peace Corps has been operating in Armenia since 1992.
