At the moment we are looking at the situation on the ground as the mediating functions that our country has. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian foreign ministry, said this at Wednesday’s press briefing, in response to the remark that Armenian officials have repeatedly criticized Russia and the CSTO regarding the Karabakh situation, and judging by their statements, Yerevan tends to expand cooperation with the West and reduce cooperation with Russia and CSTO, and asked whether Russia was considering the scenario in which it will be asked to leave its military base in Armenia.

"We will use all the tools to calm the situation both on the ground and politically. Talks are being held at all levels, the meetings of the foreign ministers of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan took place in Moscow. These contacts are continued at all levels, and this is the subject of our specific work; moreover, in terms of a whole range of directions and departments,” Zakharova said.

“I can say the same about the CSTO; we are the participants of that agreement. And I will just allow myself to say that I consider the activity of that organization to be effective, and that it presented itself in that way. Each country has its rights to evaluate, its opportunities, that's how we evaluate it," added the official representative of the Russian foreign ministry.
