The Tesla Model S Plaid electric car has set a new lap record at one of the world's most difficult racetracks, the Nurburgring, in Germany, reports Electrek.

The Model S Plaid had a best lap time of 7 minutes, 25.2 seconds. This result beats the previous record among electric cars, held by the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, by 8 seconds.

Tesla achieved such an impressive result thanks to special gears and Track Package parts: steel Zero-G discs, Goodyear Supercar 3R tires, as well as carbon ceramic brakes.

Tesla released the Track Package this May. Owing to this, the manufacturer was able to unblock the settings of the car, enabling to develop a speed of up to 322 km/h. Initially, the maximum speed of the Model S Plaid was limited to 262 km/h, for safety reasons.
