I thank the government of Armenia for inviting the EU mission to carry out its monitoring in Armenia. Michael Roth, the Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag (parliament), told this to a press conference in Armenian capital Yerevan on Wednesday.

"We are happy to record that the [aforesaid] EU mission [in Armenia] will soon expand its mission. We fully hope that Azerbaijan will give consent to carry out such a mission on the Azerbaijani side as well," Roth emphasized.

And when asked whether talks were underway with Azerbaijan in that regard, the German lawmaker responded: "We have not received any optimistic signals from the Azerbaijani side in this regard, although we consider that the issue of peace and stability is not only the issue of Armenia. Azerbaijan should also become a participant in universal regional security, peace, and stability; this is a proposal that we present to the parties and await their response."
