The signing of an intergovernmental agreement with Abkhazia on the restoration of the international airport "Sukhum" after Vladislav Ardzinba is planned for the near future. According to RIA Novosti, this was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak.

Novak made a working trip to Abkhazia, where he held talks with the President of the Republic Aslan Bzhania and the meeting of the Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission on Socio-Economic Cooperation between Russia and Abkhazia. During the visit, the conditions for the construction and restoration of Abkhazia’s resort and tourist infrastructure with the participation of Russian investors were discussed. In addition, during the meeting of the Co-Chairs of the Intergovernmental Commission, the parties discussed issues of ensuring the energy security of Abkhazia, the implementation of the “road map” to optimize its energy supply, as well as the conditions for the supply of oil products to the republic from Russia.

The Russian Deputy PM noted that the trade and economic turnover of Russia and Abkhazia increased by 73 percent last year. “And I think that this is not the upper limit, there is great potential in various spheres of interaction,” he said.
