make preferableThe breakdown of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Hungary was due to Hungary handing over Ramil Safarov, the Azerbaijani murderer of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan, to the Azerbaijani side. Gurgen Arsenyan, an MP from the ruling majority "Civil Contract" Faction of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, recalled the aforesaid during Monday’s debates at the NA Standing Committee on Foreign Relations on the setting up of an Armenian-Hungarian parliamentary friendship group.
According to him, then Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan's decision to break diplomatic relations with Budapest was groundless and short-sighted.
"What is the fault of the Hungarian people? If they wanted to show their negative attitude towards that act, they should have shown it towards the political leadership of Hungary," Arsenyan said.
Hungary has already formed a parliamentary group on friendship with Armenia and expects from the latter a similar move.
After rather short debates, the respective legislative initiative received the positive conclusion of the aforesaid NA standing committee.
