The interdepartmental commission is studying the proposals received from companies of a number of countries for the construction of a new nuclear power unit of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant. General director of this nuclear plant, Eduard Martirosyan, told reporters about this on Monday in the National Assembly of Armenia.

According to him, promising programs with neighboring countries will enable to make a selection in terms of capacity, safety, and cost of nuclear power units.

"So, it can be either a Russian, or an American, or a French, or a [South] Korean power unit. The working group conducts studies between American, Russian, French, and [South] Korean reactors," explained Martirosyan.

In his words, the new power unit of Armenia’s power plant will be built by 2036. Until then, the old power unit will operate.
