Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on Monday met with Norway’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt, within the framework of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the intensification of bilateral political relations between the two countries, reflecting on the Norwegian FM's visit to Armenia’s capital Yerevan in the fall of 2022. Minister Mirzoyan appreciated the Norwegian government's assistance for the promotion of democratic reforms in Armenia, and Norway's voluntary contribution to the Council of Europe 2023-2026 action plan for Armenia.

Armenia-EU cooperation was discussed, too.

During the meeting, regional security and stability were reflected on as well. In this connection, FM Mirzoyan briefed his Norwegian colleague on the current security situation in the South Caucasus, and stressed the importance of ensuring uninterrupted movement through the Lachin corridor in accordance with the February 22 and July 6 orders of the UN International Court of Justice.

In the context of establishing long-term peace in Armenia’s region, Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the need to address the rights and security issues of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh. Emphasis was placed on the implementation of effective steps by international players in curbing Azerbaijan's extremist ambitions, its use of force and threat of using force, and destructive practices.
