А group of young people are holding an awareness campaign in universities in Gyumri, calling on citizens to join the nationwide strike and demand the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan over his handling of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The protests were sparked – first in capital Yerevan – by Azerbaijan’s new aggression unleashed against Nagorno-Karabakh on September 19. The demonstrators demand that Armenia’s authorities be held responsible for their inaction over the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Since early morning, the demonstrators have blocked several streets in different parts of Yerevan. Students and even schoolchildren are taking part in protests, calling drivers to leave their cars on the streets and join them.
There have been protests also in Gegharkunik region where citizens blocked a main roadway.
The police in Yerevan have detained 84 demonstrators.
